MARION — The Palace Cultural Arts Association (PCAA) is pleased to announce the 1939 classic film “The Wizard of Oz” will be shown at the historic Marion Palace Theatre this weekend. Show times are Friday, July 17 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, July 18 at 2 p.m., and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, July 19 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
In this iconic musical fantasy, Judy Garland stars as Dorothy Gale, a young Kansas farm girl who dreams of a land “somewhere over the rainbow.” Dorothy’s dream comes true when she, her dog, Toto, and her family’s house are transported by a tornado to a bright and magical world unlike anything she has seen before. “The Wizard of Oz” is rated PG and runs 102 minutes.
Since the end of June, the Palace has been able to return to limited activity offering guests some familiar and fun events. “Along with opening our doors as a movie house, we have also begun offering small group theatre camps,” shares Executive Director Bev Ford. “While it has been a slow start, it is a start, and I’m grateful for that. The process may look a little different, but it doesn’t take away from the excitement of bringing back the theatre-going experience.”
The historic downtown theatre is taking precautions to ensure the safety of patrons. Enhanced protocols in accordance with current local health and safety guidelines can be found in detail below and on the Palace Theatre website www.marionpalace.org
Concessions are available and are reasonably priced. Items available for purchase include Pepsi products, popcorn, and boxed theatre candy for $2 each. Admission prices are $4 for all ages and $2 for current 2020-2021 PCAA members presenting a valid membership card. Expired 2019-2020 Membership passes will be honored through August 2, 2020.
