Sit-to-stand exercise tutorial

During January’s Wellness Month, Music Academy of Karate & Empowerment shared some basic tips with Richland Source.

Struggling with sitting and standing without using your hands? As we age, maintaining this ability is key to staying strong and independent.

In the video below, Marcia demonstrates a simple sit-to-stand exercise using a rock and a kettlebell to build lower body strength and confidence.

Here’s how to do it:

1. Start with 5 sets of 5 repetitions using just your bodyweight.

2. Once comfortable, add light weights like a rock, water jug, or kettlebell.

3. Gradually increase repetitions to 5 per set for up to 5 sets.

This effective, low-impact exercise helps maintain mobility and strength as you age. No fancy equipment needed — use what you have at home!
