Gertrude A. Larson

Gertrude A. Larson (Big Momma), 95, passed away Monday, June 27, 2016 in her home.

Mrs. Larson was born on Sunday, March 20, 1921 to late David and Pearl (Jackson) Coleman in Rison, Arkansas, and had been a resident in the Mansfield community for over 70 years.

She was a former employee of Doc’s Place in Bellville and retired from the Mansfield City School System. Gertrude was a member of the Providence Baptist Church, the Chat and Chew Quilting Club, and was voted Mother of The Year by the Public Children’s Services Association of Ohio on Sept. 14, 1995.

Gertrude is survived by her 2 children Maggie Jean Johnson, Mansfield, Seamon (Gail) E. Larson III, Greensboro, North Carolina; 12 grandchildren: Stevie, Khayyam, Nayyohn, Rita, Kimberly, Brandi, Rachelle, Lisa, Shamon, Miranda, Ronnie and Pam; 21 great grandchildren including Sade, Brittany, Tiara, Erica, Stacy and Chris whom she raised; 31 great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Gertrude was preceded in death by her husband Rev. Seamon E. Larson Jr., two daughters Mary Larson-Jackson and Elanda Lee Turner, three sisters, and six brothers.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the Providence Baptist Church with her pastor Rev. Dr. Thomas Hunt officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.

The family would like to send a special thank you for all the love and support from Hospice, especially Ms Connie Blevins, CAN and Ms Carrie Brown-Dotson, RN, BBA, for the special concerns, love shown and a job that went above and beyond their initial duties.
