GALION — The Galion Community Band will perform their Patriotic Concert on Friday, July 3 at 7 p.m. at the Band Shell in Heise Park in Galion.
This performance is the 50th anniversary of the founding of the band.
The concert will feature these works; “The Star Spangled Banner,” “The Thunderer” by J. P. Sousa, “Overture on themes from The Wizard of Oz’ arranged by James Barnes, “Allied Honor” by Karl King, a medley from “West Side Story” arranged by Jay Bocook, “The Light Eternal” by James Swearingen, “Salute to the Armed Forces” arranged by Jari Villanueva, “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” arranged by James Neilson, “The Stars and Stripes Forever” by J. P. Sousa.
The band will be joined by members of United in Harmony, the men’s choral group under the direction of Mr. Randy Mann.
“We will be recognizing past and present members of our nation’s armed forces during the playing of the “Salute to the Armed Forces,” said Brian Treisch, director of the Community Band. “We hope all veterans and current members of the military come to be recognized.”
The Galion Community Band was formed as part of the Bicentennial Celebration in 1976 by Tom Bowman. The band has performed for almost every year since its formation. Members of the band come from Galion and the surrounding area and range from high school students to retirees.
The concert is free to the public, but does request a free will donation. In the event of rain, the concert will move indoors to the First United Church of Christ at 248 Harding Way West, Galion.
The Band will perform a second concert on Sunday, Aug. 9 at 2 p.m. at the pavilion of the First UCC in Galion.
