MANSFIELD — Richland Public health released the following data on Friday, Aug. 28 at 2:30 p.m. as part of its weekly update on the COVID-19 pandemic.
Richland County data is from Richland Public Health. Ohio data is from the Ohio Department of Health. For others the agency uses Johns Hopkins.
Richland County has 654 confirmed positive COVID-19 cases with 39 probable cases. There have been 93 hospitalizations with 8 current; 33 of those hospitalizations have spent time in the ICU. There have been 17 deaths. 638 people on the cumulative list have recovered. Ages range from 6 months to 97 yrs; median age is 43.
OHIO has 113,725 cumulative positive COVID-19 cases with 6,399 probable cases for 120,124 total cases with 4,105 deaths. Ohio’s presumed-recovered count is 100,127 There are or have been 13,221 individuals hospitalized in Ohio with 2,946 ICU admissions.
U.S. has 5,884,174 COVID-19 cases in all 50 states and 5 jurisdictions.
U.S. deaths: 181,022 deaths (7.9% of all cases with an outcome).
U.S. Closed Cases: 2,282,348 closed cases (recovered or died).
Global cumulative cases: 24,532,147 cases in 213 countries/regions and 2 cruise ships.
Global deaths: 832,918 deaths (4.9% of all cases with an outcome).

CONFIRMED CASES:
Person tested positive for 2019 Novel Coronavirus RNA. These individuals can be symptomatic or asymptomatic.
PROBABLE CASES:
There are two ways a person could be counted as a “Probable” case.
1) Individual is symptomatic and linked to a confirmed case. These individuals are not tested.
2) Individual tested positive using an antigen or antibody test (ex. blood test) AND is symptomatic or is linked to a confirmed case.
TIMELINE
Jan. 21: First case in the United States is reported in Washington state.
March 19: Richland County has its first confirmed case of coronavirus.
March 20: Ohio has its first death due to coronavirus.
March 22: Ohio Governor Mike DeWine issues a “Shelter at Home” order.
April 8: Richland County has its first death from COVID-19.

May 7: Governor Mike DeWine announces many businesses can reopen (“Restart-Ohio”).
May 30: The U.S. eclipses 100,000 COVID-19 deaths.
July 2: Governor DeWine announces color coding of counties by COVID-19 spread risk.
July 16: Richland County goes to Level 3 (Red) in the Ohio Public Health Alert System.
July 22: Governor DeWine makes face coverings mandatory for the whole state.
