ONTARIO — A number of north central Ohio girls are swimming toward this weekend’s state meet at C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.
Ontario junior Brie Trumpower qualified in two individual events and as a member of two state-qualifying relay teams. It’s the third straight year Trumpower qualified for four events.
“I’m where I need to be physically,” Trumpower said after the sectional meet at Malabar. “Any lane is a good lane at state.”
Trumpower is seeded fourth in the 100 freestyle (52.26) and 12th in the 200 free (1:55.66). She will be joined in the 100 free by Galion’s Troie Grubbs, who is seeded seventh (52.63). Grubbs is also seeded fifth in the 50 freestyle (23.96).
Ontario’s Tiffany Whittaker qualified for state in the 100 breaststroke. Whittaker (108.95) is seeded 23rd.
Shelby’s Reyna Hoffman is seeded 17th in the 100 backstroke (1:00.43). Freshman teammate Emma Montgomery is seeded 24th in the 500 freestyle (5:23.69).
Colonel Crawford’s Ashtyn Rickel, another freshman, earned a state berth in the 200 individual medley. She is seeded 23rd (2:15.14).
Lexington’s Anna Parr is seeded 11th in the girls 1-meter diving event.
Ontario (1:38.88) is seeded seventh in the 200 freestyle relay. Shelby (1:41.32) is seeded 15th and Galion (1:43.34) is seeded 20th.
In the 400 freestyle relay, Ontario (3:41.40) is seeded 12th and Shelby (3:43.10) is seeded 15th.
Colonel Crawford (1:55.62) is seeded 24th in the 200 medley relay.
The state meet begins Wednesday with the Division II girls and boys diving competitions. Preliminaries for the Division II boys and girls swimming events will be Thursday afternoon with the finals set for Friday afternoon.
