ASHLAND — Centerra Co-op and Gerber & Sons announced a new partnership Friday that will take effect Aug. 1, strengthening grain services for local farmers.

The partnership brings together two local organizations with a shared commitment to serving farmers and rural communities throughout Ohio.

The decision allows each organization to focus on its core strengths.

For Centerra Co-op, this means using its strengths in buying grain, servicing grain customers and delivering quality corn to Gerber.

For Gerber & Sons, that means continuing to sharpen its focus on manufacturing quality feed and delivering exceptional customer service to livestock producers and feed customers.

“This partnership allows two local companies to work together in a way that benefits farmers,” said Jean Bratton, CEO of Centerra. “Centerra brings deep expertise in grain origination and grain management.

“We look forward to supporting Gerber’s feed mill, while bringing value to grain producers in the area.”

For customers, the transition is expected to be seamless. Feed customers will continue to do business with Gerber. Existing grain contracts and feed agreements will be fulfilled according to their current terms, with Centerra providing customers with the benefit of its grain marketing expertise, risk management resources and market access.

“At Gerber & Sons, we are committed to building the best feed business possible,” aid Brandon Finke, General Manager of Gerber & Sons. “By partnering with Centerra on the grain side of the business, it allows our internal team to stay focused on what we do best — manufacturing quality feed, continually improving our operations, and serving our customers well.”
