MADISON TOWNSHIP — The signal at the intersection of U.S. 42 and Michigan Ave., in Richland County, will be switched Tuesday, May 25 to yellow/red flash and changed to two-way stop control.
On U.S. 42, the existing stop bars will be removed and “Signal Under Study For Removal” signs will be added at the signal heads. Also, stop signs and stop bars will be added to Michigan Avenue.
The signal removal study is being conducted because the low traffic volumes on Michigan Ave. do not warrant a signal at the intersection. The Ohio Department of Transportation will continue to monitor the intersection for 90 days, while the signals are on flash, to determine if the removal process will proceed.
“We will review any crashes during this time and accept comments or feedback from motorists,” ODOT stated in a press release. “After this time, if the signals are deemed removable, we will cover or remove the signal heads but continue to monitor traffic for another 60 days before the signal would be permanently removed.”
