MANSFIELD: To say that music was important to Milt would be an understatement. His love of music started when he was young and lasted his entire life.  That legacy is something that will live on as he has passed down his love of music to his family.

Milton C. Tenney has strummed his last chords and peacefully went home Sunday, January 3, 2021 in his home at the age of 72.

Milt was born July 29, 1948 in Mansfield to parents Israel & Genevieve (Smith) Tenney. He graduated from Madison Comprehensive High School with the class of 1967.

Milt had a strong work ethic and as such his career spanned many years.  He started out at Woolworth’s from 1966-1968 before moving on to Ohio Brass from 1968-1984.  The final stop in his long career was working for Madison Local Schools from 1984 until he retired in 2012 where he also served as OAPSE #292 President for many years.

He enjoyed playing and singing country, bluegrass and gospel music on his guitar.  Milt also loved going to bluegrass music festivals One of his most cherished memories was recording a bluegrass gospel album with all his sons in 2002. Milt loved the outdoors.  He enjoyed to camp, hunt and fish. Milt also had a deep love for horses.  He took every opportunity to go horseback riding and owned, loved and cared for many horses in his youth. If he was at home relaxing and watching television, it had to be a western. While Milt had a John Wayne persona about him, anyone who had the opportunity to truly be close to him knew that he was very loving.

His sons were more like best friends as he always made time to listen when they needed someone to talk to.  Milt would always provide guidance and advice (whether they asked for it or not). He pinched every penny he could to make sure his boys had everything that they would need.

After the boys were all grown, Milt spent several years traveling, doing home improvements, camping and just enjoying life with his wife and sweetheart of 29 years, Evelyn June Tenney.  Milt was preceded in death by June in 2009 and spent the rest of his days living life to the fullest with his sons, friends and family.

He is survived by sons Jeff (Tracy) Tenney, Mike (Darcy Carns) Tenney and Jason (Shannon) Tenney; grandchildren Jessica Tenney, Jacob Tenney (Samantha Cantu), Gage Workman, Knox Tenney, Madison Carns and Zach Carns; great granddaughter Peyton Tenney; close friends Roger & Sandra Carmichael and his fishing buddy Rex (Beth) Southard; siblings Dorothy (Sam) Mills, Densel (Bertie) Crouso, Delores Hayes and Don (Sharon) Tenney; sister-in-law Mary Sutherland; first wife Jackie (Chuck) McQuillan; mother-in-law Ellen Mitchell.

In addition to his parents and wife, Milton was preceded in death by his parents-in-law Leroy (Ellen) Mitchell and Bob & Doris Durfee.

His family will receive friends 12-3 pm Sunday, January 10, 2021 in the Finefrock Chapel of the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service honoring his life will follow at 3 pm. Pastor Wayne Keith will officiate. A burial service will be held in Windsor Park Cemetery on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 10am.  Pastor Mark Bailey will officiate.
