CRESTLINE — Mayor Gloria McDonald has tendered her resignation to the Crestline Village Council, however, it cannot be accepted until June 19, according to Crawford County Prosecutor Matthew Crall.

McDonald served two years in the position but cited health concerns and wanting to spend more time with family among the reasons for her departure.

Crall said Crestline Village Council is not scheduled to meet, barring a special meeting, until June 19.

“As a result, the village will not be approving the resignation until that meeting and has nothing to release to the media or the Board of Elections,” Crall noted in a press release. “In discussing the matters with the Director of the Board, we agreed that the Board cannot take any official action on this matter until they receive official notification of the resignation.

“However, in an effort to inform the public and make sure the Board is prepared to comply with its legal requirements I have advised the Board through their director of the relevant law and pertinent deadlines.”

According to the Ohio Revised Code if a person holding an elected office resigns after the ability to hold a primary election, the appropriate committee of each political party may select a person as the party’s candidate. The committee must then certify their candidate to the Board of Elections by 4 p.m. on Aug. 14, 2017.

Party Chairs of the local political parties have been notified. Section (I) governs non-partisan (independent) candidates who must obtain at least 25 signatures from registered voters residing within the Village of Crestline. Petitions must be received by the Board of Elections by 4 p.m., Sept. 18, 2017.
