MILAN – A Lorain woman was killed and three children hurt after a Friday morning crash on the Ohio Turnpike, according to the Milan Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Najalee N. Rivera, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene, the Patrol reported.

The vehicle was also occupied by three juvenile passengers, including a 7-year-old boy, an 8-year-old girl and a 4-year-old girl, all of Lorain. Each of them suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported by LifeCare ambulance to University Elyria Hospital.

The incident took place at approximately 11:54 a.m. in Elyria Township of Lorain County, at milepost 146.3 in the eastbound lanes of travel.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the crash occurred when an eastbound Toyota RAV4, operated by Rivera, drove off the right side of the roadway, struck a guardrail, and overturned.

Najalee N. Rivera was not wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash, and she succumbed to fatal injuries at the scene.

The roadway was closed for three hours while the scene was cleared.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted by the Elyria Township Fire Department, Lorain County Coroner’s Office, Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission, and Rich’s Towing.

The crash remains under investigation.
