Butch Foust was a giver. Both sensitive and sarcastic, his greatest gift was in offering laughter, joy, and love. His heart was huge, and Butch’s selflessness continued even after his unexpected passing. Through his death, he offered new life by way of organ donation. Helping 50 other people, Butch not only touched the lives of his family and friends, he’s helped give renewed life to complete strangers.
A man who could always offer smiles and laughter, Gordon R. “Butch” Foust passed away, Thursday March 16, 2017 in the Emergency Department at Ohio Health Mansfield Hospital. He was 67.
The son of Gordon E. and Dorcas M. (Case) Foust, Butch was born July 13, 1949 in Galion and graduated from Mansfield Senior High School.
A familiar face in the Mansfield area, Butch had worked for numerous grocery stores over the years most recently for Food Town from where he retired.
An avid sports fan Butch cheered for the Cavaliers, Indians, Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes.
Very giving, he loved to spoil his family. He even dedicated a room in his house just for storing presents. Butch just wanted to make others happy. He always had a good joke and knew when family and friends needed a good laugh. Butch loved giving gifts. He’d win stuffed animals from Cedar Point and other amusement parks for his nieces, nephews, and even the children whom he saw at the grocery store.
Butch collected pocket knives. He walked everywhere in Mansfield, especially to the local library. An avid reader, he would often read three or four books at one time. A talented sketch artist, he was self taught and even received letters in the mail in response to his art work.
More than anything, Butch will be remembered as a man with a generous and giving spirit.
He is survived by his brother Paul (Janet) Keller, of Galion, sisters Patricia Graska, of Richmond, Texas, and Penny Eyerly, of Mansfield, brothers Kenneth Foust, of Mansfield, and James Foust, of Tucson, Arizona; numerous nieces and nephews; lifelong best friend Harold “Bo” Hamilton, of Mansfield.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Robert Graska.
Butch’s family will receive friends Wednesday evening March 22, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Marion Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a memorial service celebrating the life of Gordon “Butch” Foust will begin at 7 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Nationwide Children’s Hospital may be made through the funeral home.
