MANSFIELD – Enrolled students at The Ohio State University at Mansfield and North Central State College total more than 4,000 for the 2016 Fall Semester, which began the week of Aug. 22.

Each fall, the campus comes to life as students and faculty return refreshed from the summer break and ready to embrace a new school year.

Each institution continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of its student body. A large contingent of Ohio State Mansfield students have enrolled from throughout northeastern Ohio; while the number of early college students increased for the third year in a row at NC State College.

Stephen Gavazzi, Dean and Director of Ohio State Mansfield sees positive impact and opportunity for an evolving student body.

“With the expansion of housing at Buckeye Village, we welcomed even more residential students this fall. More students from outside the area are choosing Mansfield to begin their Buckeye Journey. The first week of classes is complete, welcome week was wonderful and the events were well attended by students from both institutions,” Gavazzi said. “It’s good to hear the voices of students replace the sound of the cicadas we enjoyed for a good part of the summer. It’s also wonderful to see partners throughout the community who are welcoming our students to activities, businesses and events.

“I truly believe our town- gown vision for a vibrant campus district is working, and it’s exciting to see.”

Dorey Diab, President of NC State was excited for new and continuing students to see all of the updates to campus facilities.

“Over the summer, numerous projects were completed. Small things, like fresh paint and new pavement have been completed, as well as larger projects like moving the cashier’s office to Kee Hall to be more accessible for enrolling students,” Diab said. “At the Kehoe Center in Shelby, the building entry has been totally remodeled and now includes versatile, collaboration spaces, high technology with online training and robotics, while numerous classrooms, and facilities have been repaired and updated for fall.

“NC State is welcoming a record number of College Credit Plus students, and the first Tuition Freedom Scholars who graduated from area high schools and career centers last spring with some college credit, and have now enrolled at NC State to complete an associate degree tuition free.”
