Maxine (Hoover) Cole, 88, of Shelby, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2016 at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital.
She was born June 24, 1928 in Shelby, the daughter of the late Carl and Susan (Shade) Hoover and was a 1946 graduate of Shelby High School. Maxine was a homemaker and was active in all duties of the family farm operations. She was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church in Shelby, Cloverleaf Western Square Dancing Club which she helped teach, and M.O.M Mothers Club which continues to meet monthly.
Traveling was something she enjoyed very much as she and her husband George went to every World’s Fair across the country, spent 25 years at Bay Point on Lake Erie camping and boating, and wintered in Florida for 25 years at Sun-N-Fun.
Maxine was an avid follower of all Shelby Whippet sports and took great pleasure in supporting and watching her grandchildren in all of their activities. Maxine enjoyed crocheting and doing jigsaw puzzles. A kind, caring and compassionate person, Maxine was well loved.
Maxine is survived by her husband of 68 years, George F. Cole Jr., whom she wed on July 14, 1948; three children: Gregory (Faye) Cole, of Shelby, Leora (Tom) Lantz, of Shelby, and Pamela (Karl) Graham, of Columbus, Indiana; seven grandchildren: Jodi (Ed) Rinehart, Phillip Cole, Michael (Natalie) Lantz, Jon Lantz, Johan (Aimee) Graham, Karla (Billy) Fidoe, and Kurt (Briana) Graham; nine great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Robert Hoover (Bonnie Slone), David (Garnet) Hoover, Jacque (Judy) Hoover, all of Shelby; two sisters-in-law: Margie Hoover, of Bucyrus, and Effie Cole, of Mansfield.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dean Hoover.
Family and friends are welcome on Friday, Sept. 9, 2016 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 W. Main St. Shelby and also from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 at First Lutheran Church, 33 Broadway, Shelby.
Funeral services will be Saturday at the church at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Rus Yoak officiating. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Memorial expressions may be made to the church.
