MANSFIELD — Mansfield Iditarod musher Matt Failor will be the honored guest on Saturday, April 9 at the The Heart of Ohio Council, Boy Scouts of America, Recognition Dinner.
The event will take place at the the Mid-Ohio Conference Center in Mansfield. Among those recognized will be the 2015 Eagle Scouts and Silver Beaver recipients – Dale Fortney of Ashland, Joshua Nagel of Marion, Amanda Phillips of Amherst, Dawn Rogers of Oberlin, and Steve Trimble of Norwalk.
Failor is this year’s Eagle Scout Class Honoree. He was born and raised in Ohio and is a graduate of St. Peter’s schools in Mansfield. He earned the Rank of Eagle Scout in 2000 in Troop 4121, sponsored by St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Mansfield.
Failor completed his first Iditarod in 2012, racing Buser’s yearling team, finishing in 12 days, 18 hours, 10 minutes and 20 seconds. Failor raced Martin Buser’s B team in the 2013 Iditarod.
He also raced (for Kelly and Margaret Maixner of Mad Stork Kennel) in the Yukon Quest (February 2013), a race just as long and difficult as the Iditarod but much less known, down here in the ‘lower 48.’
Failor has purchased property and started his own dog kennel. In 2016, he ran the Iditarod with his own team of dogs, finishing in 11 days, 18 hours, 54 minutes, and 45 seconds (61st place).
