ONTARIO — Two people were sent to OhioHealth Mansfield Tuesday after a three-car crash on Park Avenue near the Ohio 309 split.

Chet Mullins, of Crestline, was driving his blue Chevrolet Cobalt east on Park Avenue when he looked up and saw that cars were stopped just before the railroad underpass. He did not stop in time, he said.

“I honestly just didn’t see it coming,” he said minutes after the crash. “I looked up and then I had to slam on my breaks.”

According to Ontario Police Officer Brad Kalb, Mullins was cited for assured clear distance ahead. Mullins was not transported to the hospital. His vehicle was towed by Terry’s 24 Towing.

Mullins’ wife, Stacy, was of the two taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Chet Mullins said she hit her head on the windshield, but that her injury was not serious. He said the car was traveling around 35 to 40 miles per hour.

“She was just scared, confused,” he said. “But the airbags didn’t come out. I don’t know why.”

Kalb said another passenger in a silver Hyundai Accent was also transported to the hospital to treat minor injuries.

Ontario Fire Chief Ron Henry said there were three cars involved in the crash. Authorities blocked Ohio 309’s Park Avenue exit to east-bound traffic for approximately one hour.
