Roger T. Ebersole, age 76, former resident of Shelby, died Sunday evening at the Ross Heart Hospital at the OSU Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.

Born Jan. 13, 1940 in Fostoria, Ohio to Keith and Marjorie (Thomas) Ebersole, he was a Shelby area resident the majority of his life.

A graduate of Fostoria High School, Roger served in the U. S. Navy from 1959-1963.

Roger then attended the Ohio State University where he graduated with his masters degree in education. He taught government class at the Shelby Senior High for 37 years and was also the girls softball, wrestling, baseball and football coach. He was a member of the 1st Lutheran Church in Shelby and the Sunbury Rotary Club.

Roger enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a member of the Mild Hogs Motorcycle Club, he also loved to play golf, put together model trains, reading, coaching sports and spending time with children and family.

He is survived by his wife, Mary McRury, whom he married Nov. 2, 2013; two sons, Jeff Ebersole of Greenville, Ohio and Kurt Ebersole of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Laura Howell of Monument, Colorado and Natasha New Lebanon, Ohio; nine grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie H. Ebersole in November 2006.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday March 14, 2016 at the First Lutheran Church in Shelby, Ohio. Pastor Russel Yoak will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
