Michael J. Schnelker, 68, of Galion passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016 at home unexpectedly.
Born June 1, 1947 in Galion, he was the son of the late Myron L. and Elizabeth Jane (Crumb) Schnelker. He married Sally (Kiner) Brennan-Schnelker on Oct. 2, 2002 and she survives.
He was a graduate of Galion High School in 1965 and served with the United States Army during Vietnam. Mike was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion and worked as an auto body technician at Weidner Pontiac in Mansfield. He later worked for Otterbacher Trailers in Crestline, the Mansfield foundry of AK Steel and retired from Shelby Tube in 2013.
Mike was a member of AMVETS Galion 1979 and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved being on the water enjoying his two Lyman boats.
In addition to his wife he is survived by daughter, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Sipes, of Canal Winchester; step-daughters Teresa First, of Galion and Loretta (Art) Orozco, of Richland, North Carolina, and sister Jane Schnelker and Chuck Cotsamire, of Crestline.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 at Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Homes, 218 S. Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833. At the family’s request no services will be held.
Full military honors will be conducted by the United States Army and Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
