SHELBY, Ohio — Students from the Young Entrepreneurs Academy Richland (YEA! Richland) visited Domino’s in Shelby on Dec. 2, for a behind-the-scenes-look at what it takes to run a successful business franchise.

Domino’s was chosen to help students understand the real possibility of creating a quality branded enterprise that is replicable to serve more customers in more locations across the country. Franchise owner Jon Penwell shared his entrepreneurial success story with the students.

YEA! students heard where the business idea came from, what the challenges have been and what skills it takes to keep the business running. This field trip emphasized to students the importance of this unique type of business operation and structure.

With more than 30 years in the pizza business, but just two as owner of the franchise, Penwell shared his excitement and hopes for his business.

YEA! is a groundbreaking program that teaches students how to make a job, not just take a job. In addition to lessons inside the classroom, YEA! introduces students to all areas of business through field trips, guest lectures, introducing them to business mentors and community leaders.

By engaging in this hands-on-approach to learning, students can identify with what it takes to serve the public and how this applies to starting their own business. It’s trips like this that make YEA! the unique experience that it is – and takes experiential learning to a new level.
