MANSFIELD, Ohio — The Mansfield Playhouse will presents the opening of Maxwell Anderson’s “Bad Seed,” beginning this weekend.

The play is a dramatization of William March’s novel “The Bad Seed” by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service.

Fitting for the Halloween season, this psychological thriller delves into the evil that lies within Rhoda Penmark. Little Rhoda is the evil queen of the story as she shows the surface of a sweet, charming, full of old-fashioned graces while being loved by her parents and admired by her elders. But Rhoda’s mother, Christine has an uneasy feeling about a reoccurring nightmare haunting her as she learns more of Rhoda’s not-so-hidden traits of a liar, a thief and worse.

Only Christine’s father knows the truth behind Christine’s nightmares.

Cast members include Cassandra Kurek as Rhoda Penmark, Edward Kurek as Kenneth Penmark, Dodie Conkel as Christine Penmark, Jodi McCall as Monica Breedlove, Jeffrey Dowdy as her brother Emory, Carl Hunnell as Reginald Tasker, Kevin Hutchison as LeRoy, Janet Wittenmyer as Miss Fern, Johnna Gustafson as Mrs. Daigle, Doug Wertz as Mr. Daigle and Scott Stoops as Christine’s father Richard Bravo.

The production takes place on the main stage of The Mansfield Playhouse set in the 1950’s and is directed by Resident Artistic Director, Doug Wertz.
