MANSFIELD — The Main Street Improvement Project is 65 percent complete with about 120 days months remaining in the 18-month,  $20.3 million effort.

The project is a complete upgrade of Main Street from First to Sixth streets and Park Avenue from Main to Diamond streets, designed by K.E. McCartney & Associates of Mansfield with Kokosing Construction as the primary contractor.

Downtown Mansfield Inc. CEO Jennifer Kime on Thursday provided an update on the project, including the fact Park Avenue through Central Park will remain closed for about two more weeks.

She said construction crews recently completed grading, subbase work, and the installation of geocell and geotextile fabric at the Park Avenue intersection.

Over the last two weeks, workers also laid brick pavers and crosswalk asphalt between Third Street and Park Avenue, removed old signal infrastructure, and poured new pole foundations.

Additional updates included storm sewer installations at Park Avenue and Walnut Street, the completion of the wall at Bankz Salon, and ongoing concrete and stone veneer work by Smith Paving.

From June 15 through June 27, crews will focus on subgrade compaction and pouring concrete pavement at the Park Avenue intersection.

Decorative Paving will continue installing bricks between Third Street and Park Avenue, while electrical and stone veneer work progresses throughout the project limits.

Sidewalk and curb work is also scheduled between First and Third streets, alongside additional drainage work on Park Avenue and South Walnut Street.

Traffic and Access Reminders

  • Intersection Closure: The Park Avenue intersection remains entirely closed to traffic.
  • Detour Routes: Main Street traffic is being detoured via Mulberry and Diamond streets. Park Avenue traffic should use Third and Fourth streets.
  • Daily Lane Closures: Main Street remains open between Third Street and North Park Drive, though partial lane closures will be active during work hours from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All lanes will reopen at the end of each workday.

Kime said all downtown businesses remain open and accessible. Businesses near the closed Park Avenue intersection can be reached from South and North Park streets via Diamond and Main streets. Any temporary driveway closures will be coordinated with business owners in advance.

Minor delays are expected as traffic patterns shift throughout the week.
