MANSFIELD, Ohio – Mansfielders continue to demonstrate their interest in exactly how their next mayor will govern, as evidenced by the nearly 1,000 seats reserved at Mansfield’s Renaissance Theatre for the event to be held Tuesday, October 20 at 6 p.m.
“Ticket reservations continue to track far beyond expectations,” said Richland Source Publisher Jay Allred. “Over 800 seats have already been reserved and the number has grown every day since we announced. It’s an indicator that voters are interested in the welfare of their city and want to make the best decision they can.”
Reserved seating closes on Oct. 18, but those without tickets are still welcome, according to Renaissance Theatre CEO Mike Miller.
“We seat close to 1,400 if we open the balcony, so there is plenty of room to come without a ticket.”
The debate between incumbent Mayor Tim Theaker, Democratic nominee Dr. Ron Abrams, and late entrant write-in candidate Gloria Curtis is free and open to the public. It will be followed by a reception where the public may meet the candidates for mayor as well as other contested offices.
Curtis was recently added to the field after the organizing committee elected to modify the debate rules to allow for candidates that were not the official nominee of their party. Curtis is running as a Democrat.
Seating is limited and tickets may be reserved online, or by calling the Renaissance Theatre box office at 419-522-2726, Tuesday through Friday, noon to 5 p.m.
The debate is presented by online local news outlet Richland Source, in cooperation with an extensive list of collaborators.
The debate will be broadcast live on WMAN 1400 AM, while DRM Productions will record video which will be available on Richland Source and WMAN. The editorial teams at Richland Source and WMAN, as well as representatives from Richland Young Professionals and the Richland Area Chamber of Commerce will serve as debate moderators and volunteers. Century Link and MT Business Technologies are co-sponsoring the candidate reception afterwards.
The candidates will answer prepared questions from the moderators in addition to spontaneous questions from the audience and social media.
Interested voters can learn more about the debate and stay up-to-date as it draws closer by following the the event page set up on Facebook.
