SHELBY, Ohio – The shelves at the FISH of Shelby food pantry are full again, thanks to three events this past week.

FISH volunteers collected canned goods and other donations at the Friday, Aug. 21 football scrimmage at Skiles Field. The amount gathered there half-filled the back of a minivan.

The second event was coordinated by United Steelworkers Local 3057 and The Women of Steel at Cornell’s IGA on Saturday, Aug. 22. Shopper there generously donated nonperishable food, cleaning supplies, and personal hygiene items – filling 12 shopping carts. In addition, they dug into their purses and wallets and contributed $525 in cash.

MTD/Shelby held a food-drive this past week, too. Employees there filled dozens of grocery bags and boxes and delivered them to FISH on Thursday, Aug. 27.

“Because of the community’s caring, we are able to more fully meet the needs of those in our community who need an extra helping hand,” stated a FISH volunteer. “Many thanks to everyone.”

FISH – Friends In Service Here – was organized in 1971. Its food pantry serves residents of the Shelby City School District and is housed in the Shelby Help Line Ministries building.
