MANSFIELD, Ohio – Johnny’s Mattress will host the 2nd annual Great Sleep-Out Against Domestic Violence beginning with a press conference at 4 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 4. The competing teams will begin the contest at 5 p.m. and end when the contest is down to one contestant still awake.

All of the proceeds will benefit the Richland County Domestic Violence Shelter to assist local victims. Johnny’s will also be a drop-off point for canned and dry goods for their food pantry.

Last year, Johnny’s surpassed its $10,000 goal by $8,000. This year, they have set a very realistic goal of $25,000 and have added a dessert and pastry auction and a car show to help boost the excitement.

Agencies with teams participating in the sleep-out include:  Richland County Sheriff’s Department; Mansfield Police Department; Richland County Prosecutor; Richland County Mental Health Agency; Family Life Counseling; Domestic Violence Shelter; and Richland County Children’s Services.

Team leaders must stay on mattresses continually until only one person is awake. Teams will phone friends for donations to meet the $25,000 goal.

Johnny’s Car, Truck and Bike Show will kick off at noon on Sept. 5 and run until 5 p.m.

The Dessert and Pastry Auction will also be held Sept. 5, with bragging rights awarded to the pastry sold at highest bid.

The day will also see a 50/50 auction, door prizes, and entertainment by JR the DJ.

All events will be held at Johnny’s Mattress & Furniture Superstore, 1534 Ashland Road, Mansfield. Those interested in participating in the events may call Johnny’s at 419-589-5646.
