MANSFIELD, Ohio — A Richland County Sheriff’s Deputy was taken to OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Thursday morning after she was bitten by a dog while she was on official business at 129 Blymer Ave.

According to a report from the Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Stacy Dittrich was attempting to make contact with someone at the residence to follow up on a case at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday. After receiving no answer when she knocked at the front door, she heard sounds from the rear of the house. Assuming the residents may be in the back yard, Dittrich began to walk around the house toward the rear of the residence when a pit bull came around from the rear of the house.

The dog bit Dittrich on her left hand and pinky finger. The homeowner pulled the dog back as Dittrich retreated to a safe location and called for help. According to the report, she applied pressure to the wound until paramedics arrived.

The homeowner was visibly upset and offered to call for help as Dittrich waited for the squad to arrive, but Dittrich said she had already done so.

The Dog Warden cited the homeowner for multiple charges, including having a pit bull within city limits and failure to maintain a vicious dog. According to the report, Rozeland T. Bateman, a 36-year-old female, resides at the residence.
