ONTARIO, Ohio — The new signage for the Maize Memorial Dog Park was revealed Saturday afternoon, following the Tabitha Hancock Dog Walk Fundraiser that was held at Marshall Park.
Two signs were recently installed just outside the new dog park, which is located behind Ontario’s Stingel Elementary School and close to the Marshall Park baseball fields.
Before the park can open, a fence needs to be constructed around the park’s perimeter.
“We would love to have [the fence] up by the end of the summer,” said Karen Leedom, fundraising coordinator.
She said they’ve raised about half of what they need for the fence, which is estimated to cost $15,000.

Fortunately, the idea of having a dog park in the area has been well-received by people in the community, Leedom indicated. She noted, “We were here last night setting up and talked to some people walking their dogs and told them about [the dog park] and they came this morning [to the dog walk] and wrote a check for sponsorship.
“That’s why we really wanted to get the signs up so more people would know about the park and where it’s going to be.”
The design for the signs was created by Leedom and Chuck and Lori Dille.
Leedom said that the dog walk held earlier in the day drew about 75 people and their dogs.
“It went really well,” she commented.
The fundraising event was held in honor of the late Tabitha Hancock, who passed away unexpectedly in early March of this year. Hancock was a supporter of the Maize Memorial Dog Park and had looked forward to taking her dog, Charley.
