MANSFIELD — Cannons fired. President Lincoln spoke calmly. A blacksmith shaped hot iron. Medicinal herbs grew in a garden.
It was all part Sunday of the third annual Civil War Living History Days at South Park, sponsored by the Richland Early American Center for History.
The two-day event featured re-enactors, demonstrations and tours of the historic structures at the park on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Highlights of this year’s event included presentations on Civil War music, the daguerreotype, slavery and the Bible, love letters written during the Civil War and of course, skirmishes.
Famous historical figures stopped by included the aforementioned President Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis, leader of the Confederate states.
