MANSFIELD, Ohio – The 4th Annual Hero Challenge 5K Obstacle Course Run with Fit-Pit Workout Option will be held Saturday, June 20. The event, sponsored by Fit 1 Crossfit and Snow Trails, will donate a portion of this year’s proceeds to young Grant Reed, son of a local firefighter and a hero in his own right.

In 2012, at the age of 12, Grant was diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a brain tumor near the back of the head. Grant, a Buckeye fan, named his malignant tumor “Michigan.” His bravery and positive attitude earned him a spot in the hearts of locals, as evidenced by the popular “Supporting Grant!” Facebook page with over 1,440 members.

In an update posted June 5, Troy Reed, Grant’s father, said that Grant had received what is hoped to be his final dose of chemo and was now home before traveling to Texas for further treatment.

The Hero Challenge will take place at Snow Trails. This year’s Hero Challenge Course includes a timed 5K obstacle course with balance beams and hurdles, wall climbs, mud pits, wet zones, a Slip-n-Slide, and many more slippery, muddy, and challenging obstacles.

Those participating much be at least 13 years of age.

The Fit-Pit course, which is an optional additional challenge, is a CrossFit type of competition which consists of four stations where participants spend 90 seconds performing maximum repetitions, with 30 seconds of rest between each station. Weight and apparatuses are specific to men and women’s divisions. Stations include kettle ball swings, a 20 inch up-and-over box jump, Burpees, and push press before tackling the Hero Challenge Obstacle Course.

Those participating in the Fit-Pit must be at least 16 years of age. All participants of either event under the age of 18 must have a parent or legal guardian sign a waiver.

A $300 cash prize will be awarded to a team of four with the combination of highest Fit-Pit Workout scores and completion of Hero Challenge Obstacle Course.

In a recent press release, Snow Trails Marketing Manager Nate Wolleson said, “We are ready for another fantastic event with a great course for participants to challenge themselves on many fun features. Additional features will be added, with mud and wet zones, as well as obstacles for climbing and traversing.”

Wolleson explained, “The event has grown over the years, yet held a local feel with many returning participants. This year is no different, with new participant registrations up 15 percent over last. It is going to be another crazy fun event here at Snow Trails.”

Online registration for the event ends June 15, but walk-up registration is available the day of the event.
