Mary Morrison had a lot of reasons to smile. She was blessed with a successful business, retired to the natural beauty of Long Boat Key, and enjoyed 68 years of marriage. She will be remembered as a woman of many smiles.
Mary passed away Monday afternoon April 20, 2015 in her Mansfield home. She was 88.
Born June 12, 1926 in Mansfield, during WWII Mary worked at Tappan as an inspector on the belly tanks of bombers that fired rockets. Much later in life she owned and operated Dorothy’s Candies & Gifts on Mansfield’s Miracle Mile and downtown in the Richland Trust building. She was a member of Altrusa Club, and was in the first class of Gray Ladies at the Mansfield General Hospital. She was past president of LaSertoma in Mansfield. She sold the candy stores to retire to Twin Shores Beach & Marina on Long Boat Key, and while in Florida she modeled in fashion shows for Bealls Department Stores and was elected queen of the resort five years ago.
She is survived by her husband Max Morrison, whom she married July 13, 1946; a cherished friend and neighbor Renée Schambre; a sister Helen Highman of Ashland; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son Gregory Max Morrison in 1972. Also deceased are her sister Evelyn Teger and brother Albert Teger.
Friends may call Friday, April 24, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where her memorial service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. Pastor Charles Rice will officiate.
