Albert Kenneth Leitenberger, Sr.

Albert Kenneth Leitenberger, Sr., 83, of Mansfield, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015. He was born December 27, 1931, in Mansfield, Ohio, to the late Conrad and Katherine (Bogantz) Leitenberger.

Al graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1949. He worked as a tool and die maker at Westinghouse beginning in 1950, then for Electrolux and White Consolidated until they closed permanently. After this, he worked at several other shops for a total of 50 years. He was a proud member of the Air National Guard from 1951-1958.

Al had a quick wit and enjoyed a good joke. He was an avid golfer, and participated in a traveling golf league. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball, and bowling. He was an avid outdoorsman and found great pleasure in being in nature.

He leaves his cherished wife of 57 years, Lillie (Tackett) Leitenberger, whom he married on September 20, 1957, in Adrian, Michigan. He is also survived by two brothers, Walt (Andi) Leitenberger and David (Kay) Leitenberger; four children, Albert (Carolyn) Leitenberger, Brenda (Gary) Eberts, Catherine (Phillip) Pratt and Edward (Rebecca) Leitenberger; twelve grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard and Kenneth Leitenberger; an infant sister; and a granddaughter, Patricia Leitenberger.

The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2015, in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with additional visitation beginning at 12 p.m. Brother John McDaniels will conduct the service. Burial will follow in Shenandoah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army.
