ASHLAND, Ohio – Ashland will hold The Star Spangled Celebration Parade, sponsored by the Ashland Wendy’s, as part of Ashland’s Bicentennial Celebration. Entrants are currently sought for the “100 Years of Cars” event to be held July 4, at 10 a.m.
A Bicentennial Parade Car Committee has been formed with Kandi Blaze Thompson as the chairperson. The committee plans to have two cars abreast in 16 to 20 rows.
The cars will be led by 1915 Ts or older and continue up to 2015 cars including hybrids and electric. Kandi’s Kustoms Hot Rod and Restoration Shop is the sponsor of a specially designed bicentennial dash plaque that will be given to participating drivers.
Tentative plans are to have four cars in the following classes: early years 1915-1930; pre-war years 1931-1942; post-war years and Ash Fair race cars 1943-1960; muscle cars 1961-1980; front wheel drive 1981-1990; electronic age 1991-2014; and new 2015 cars including hybrids and electric, with eight cars in this class.
Due to space in the parade, it is necessary to limit these classes for cars and custom cars only. There will be a free public showing of all the cars after the parade. The location and details are still being finalized.
There will be no charge to participate and advanced applications will be required. In the event there are more entries than allotted space of four cars for each class, the committee will have the final decision.
The “100 Year of Cars” Committee volunteers are Mike Gray, Chuck Griffith, Cloyd and Mary Ann McNaull, Bob Thiel, Kandi Blaze Thompson and Thomas Thompson. Additional information and application forms will soon be available from Kandi Blaze Thompson.
