Phyllis L. Reed, 81, of Mansfield, went home to be with her Lord on March 16, 2015, following a long illness. Born April 1, 1933 in New Brighton, PA, she was the daughter of Jesse Thomas and Nellie (Buzzard) McClurg. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, family was her number one priority. Phyllis enjoyed reading, especially her Bible and was a member of a neighborhood Bible study with dear friends. In her free time, she loved gardening and doing crafts and crocheting. Phyllis was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church in Wayne, WV.
Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Merle C. Reed; children, Roger (Joan) Reed, Tammy (Freddie Garcia) Reed, and Penny (Mike) Tschantz; grandchildren, Roger W. (Tanya) Reed, Jennifer (Kenny) Vollmer, Luke Tschantz, Rachel Tschantz, and Dakota Garcia; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Hailey, and Ethan Reed; brother, John “Jack” Thomas; half-brother, Danny Thomas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her infant sister, Evelyn and her half-sister, Judy Thomas.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Sterling House where Phyllis had lived and also to the staff of the VNA and Hospice of North Central Ohio for their devoted care of Phyllis during her illness.
Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 from 5-7 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road, Ontario. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 19, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Pastor Tony Viscioni. An additional hour of visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral, from 1-2 p.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Ohio, 1050 Dauch Drive, Ashland, OH 44805.
