LEXINGTON: Jerry Campbell passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon March 14, 2015 in his daughter’s rural Lexington home among family. He was 69 years old. Born March 20, 1945 to James D. and Emma Lucille (Meyer) Campbell he was graduated from Lexington High School in 1963 and a lifelong resident of the Lexington area.
JC served three years in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk as a jet mechanic. Following his active duty military service he served with the US Naval Seabees and adopted their unofficial motto “Can Do” as his attitude in life. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #5101, Lexington.
Known by all as a hard worker, JC used his entrepreneurial spirit to manage multiple endeavors at once. He worked finishing plaster and drywall at J&B Acoustical for 50 years as well as through his own business, Moonlite Plastering & Drywall. He made the most of each day and could be found working on his farm, or mowing grass in the summer and plowing snow in the winter. But there still was time for his true passion…cars.
He inherited his father’s love for cars at an early age. Whether it was racing stock cars, restoring classic Chevy’s or just collecting, he was always a go-to guy for auto parts or information for restoration or repair. With JC, a wealth of information on cars has also passed.
Remembered as a humble “people person,” JC was all about the laugh and brightening somebody’s day. Life was a party…he was for dancing, and country music, and picking, and grinning, and loudly enjoying life!
JC formerly served Troy Township, Morrow County, as a township trustee, and had attended Heartland Church.
His surviving family includes daughters and son-in-law Kelly Pack of Lexington, Jamie & Randy Miller of Vero Beach, FL; grandchildren Micah Thompson, Noah Pack, Isaiah Pack, Rebekah Pack, Zachary Miller, Emily Miller and Riley Miller; sister Judy Braddock of Mansfield and brother and sister-in-law Rick & Kathryn Campbell of Mansfield; and a host of friends.
His family will receive friends Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where his funeral service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Yogi Durbin will officiate. Contributions in JC’s memory to the Lexington Senior Civic Center may be made at the funeral home.
