PERRYSVILLE: Mary Cloe Caslow Clayburn passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2015 in her home surrounded by her family. She was 90.
She was born December 4, 1924 to parents Ernest & Orah (Alspach) Caslow in Battle Creek, MI. Mary graduated as valedictorian of her class from Talma High School in Talma, Indiana.
On November 28, 1943, she married her childhood sweetheart Oliver Clayburn in Rochester, Indiana and they had 67 years together in a close and loving marriage until he passed away in 2010.
Mary was a homemaker most of her life, creating a happy environment for their 9 children. The family had many adventures together and created many wonderful memories. One of her greatest joys was her family and nurturing her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Mary loved gardening, and was still working in the garden just last summer. She also loved reading, birding, being outdoors in nature, quilting and sewing, spending time with family, and playing games. In her younger days, she and Ollie also loved camping and canoeing.
Mary and Ollie were members of the Seventh – day Adventist church, and both of them loved their church and selflessly gave their time in volunteering. They had a gift of nurturing others in their faith. Mary had a strong belief in Jesus Christ and her life was a testimony to her love and trust in God, exhibited by loving and caring for others.
She is survived by 6 of her 9 children: Vera (Donovan) Freeman of Bowling Green, KY; Janet (Jack) Penird of Auburn, NY; Linda (Don) Becker of Lincoln, NE; Terry (Dan) Hellinger of Perrysville, OH; Larry (Patti) Clayburn of Shelby, OH; and Mark (Nancy) Clayburn of Chuckey, TN; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and her sister Vera Terry.
In addition to her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; her children Tom Clayburn, Joyce Clayburn Jones, and Ted Clayburn; and her siblings Daniel Caslow, John Caslow, Louise Caslow, Irene Caslow, and Dora Smith Gleason.
A memorial service honoring Mary’s life, open to all, will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at4pm the Mansfield Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1040 W. Cook Rd., Mansfield, Ohio. Pastor Larry Grahn will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Mansfield SDA Elementary School, through the Mansfield Seventh-day Adventist church.
