MANSFIELD, Ohio—Students at Park Ave. Child Care & Education celebrated the 111th birthday of Theodor Geisel, better known as “Dr. Seuss,” this week.
Every day this week, students enjoyed Dr. Seuss themed days, including dress backwards day, crazy hair day, crazy hat day, mismatch day and Dr. Seuss costume day.
Friday, several children sported blue wigs to impersonate Thing One and Thing Two, characters from “The Cat in the Hat.” One of the children, Adelina Graszl, dressed as Cindy Lou Who from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
They also heard a reading of “Happy Birthday To You” from Madison High School teacher Mary Myers. Fittingly, Myers dressed in a Birthday Bird costume, which she said she pieced together herself.
“I love coming here,” she said. “The kids are so interactive.”
Following her reading, the students marched around the school with instruments and sang the happy birthday song. They culminated the festivities by blowing out candles on a birthday cake.
Teacher Theresa Rager said that throughout the week, the students participated in various Dr. Seuss activities, and, of course, read some of his classic books. She said they read “My Many Colored Days.” “It’s about how different colors make you feel different things, and so they made their own cut-out people and talked about how they felt and what that color meant to them,” she said.
Park Ave. Child Care & Education provides services to children who are 6 weeks – 5 years old.
