SHELBY, Ohio – St. Mary’s School is now accepting students who are eligible for an income-based scholarship for the 2015-2016 school year. Parents can work with St. Mary’s School to complete the application process, and the school will submit the application to the Ohio Department of Education on behalf of the family.
Lisa Rhodes, St. Mary’s School principal said, “Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church is celebrating 135 years of maintaining open enrollment at St. Mary’s School, giving all families in and around the Shelby community a school choice.”
She added, “Many people don’t know that students do not have to be Catholic to attend. All are welcome here. We give parents the choice to be able to bring their children closer to God through an excellent education enriched by faith and core values.”
The deadline to apply for the income-based scholarship program is April 15. Because the application process can be lengthy, parents should begin contacting schools as soon as possible.
The income-based scholarship program provides scholarships to eligible students who are entering kindergarten, first grade or second grade in the 2015-16 school year. Any kindergarten, first or second-grade student whose family’s income is at or below 200 percent of Federal Poverty Guidelines is eligible to apply. For example, a family of four making less than $48,500 would be eligible.
Scholarships are worth $4,250. Families must use the scholarship to pay tuition at the participating private school of their choice.
