Ken Stewart

Ken Stewart passed away early Saturday morning, January 31, 2015 in his Mansfield home surrounded by loving family following a brief illness. He was 61.

He was born July 23, 1953 in Mansfield to parents Richard E. & Ina (Bartels) Stewart. After he was graduated from Mansfield Senior High, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Accounting with minors in Religion and Computers from Ashland University.

He worked as a CPA for manufacturing and financial industries in Mansfield including White Westinghouse, Mechanics Savings Bank, and Advantage Credit Union. He retired in 2012.

At a church event for young singles, a young lady named Mary Birkhead caught Ken’s eye. The pair married November 12, 1977 and together raised two girls.

In spare time, Ken was an avid train collector and a skilled woodworker who built sturdy pieces for family and friends. He was a hard worker and enjoyed tending to his garden. Always on the go, his family lovingly called him the “Energizer Bunny” because of his active life and helpful attitude—he would drop everything to help someone in need.

He attended Southside Christian Church in Mansfield and was a member of Venus Lodge #152 F&AM, and Baku Grotto where he served as a Past Monarch.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Mary Stewart of Mansfield; two daughters and a son-in-law: Jennifer Stewart of Alexandria, VA, and Laura & Jim Gilbert of Maineville, OH; and two grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Natalie & Jack Gilbert.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents.

A Celebration of Life will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2015 in Southside Christian Church, 2055 Middle Bellville Road in Mansfield, and Pastor Paul Lintern will officiate. The service will commemorate Ken’s love of Christmas and Easter. He will be laid to rest on his beloved Sanibel Island at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory to Operation Christmas Child—Samaritan’s Purse or Hospice of North Central Ohio may be made at the memorial service.
