Albert Togliatti, 81, passed away December 9, 2014.
Al was surrounded by his wife of 50 years Annette, their three children Gigi (Bob) Rice of Mansfield, Dante Togliatti of San Diego, and Rodney (Dana) Togliatti of Mansfield. The fifth of seven children, Albert was born March 15, 1933 to his parents Angelina and Theodore Togliatti of Powhattan Point, Ohio.
He is survived by three sisters Madeline Keller, Olga Ryan, Elsie Capriola, and three brothers Theodore (Beverly) Togliatti, James (Peggy) Togliatti, and Angelo (Elaina) Togliatti.
Albert served his country as an Air Force private during the Korean War before settling in Mansfield as a tool and die maker. He retired from General Motors with 38 years of service at age 65. Albert was a lifetime parishioner of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. He was a sociable man and enjoyed active memberships in the Sons of Italy (former President), Liederkranz, and as a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Al enjoyed traveling all over the world with Annette. Their travels included Germany, Italy, Austria and too many others to mention. Albert had a special quality when it came to children. He was always the first to join in their activities and they loved having him around. He especially cherished spending time with his seven grandchildren Angelo (25), Elyse (23), Daniel (18), Brady (16), Lucia (15), Michael (10), and Ruthann (8).
He was hardworking, fun loving and perhaps the world’s kindest man. From the time he was a child until his last days, he was singing and laughing and you never saw him without a smile on his face. He will be missed by all who knew him. Special thanks to Hospice of North Central Ohio and Rotary Adult Daycare for their love and compassion.
Friends may call at Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, on Friday from 4-6pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11am Saturday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church with Fr. Jeremy Miller officiating and military services provided by Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail will follow. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Msgr. Dunn Foundation.
