MANSFIELD — A juvenile was treated at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital for a gunshot wound to his arm on Monday night, according to Mansfield police Chief Jason Bammann.
Officers responded to the report of multiple shots fired near the entrance to North Lake Park at West Fourth Street.
Bammann said police found two unoccupied vehicles near the park entrance that were struck numerous times. The area was immediately secured and a crime scene established, he said.
“Shortly after officers arrived on scene, we were notified a juvenile victim had arrived at a local hospital suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound,” Bammann said. “Detectives responded to the hospital and began their investigation.”
The chief said the victim refused to cooperate with police at the hospital.
During the investigation at the park entrance, officers recovered evidence, including numerous spent shell casings.
Detectives and crime scene personnel processed the scene, collected evidence, and are reviewing available surveillance footage and video evidence.
Investigators are continuing to conduct interviews and follow-up on all leads to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The chief said residents in the area Monday evening said they saw nothing.
At this time, the investigation remains active and there are no additional details to report, Bammann said.
Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to call the Mansfield police detectives at 419-755-9724.
