MCEI Jonathan Anderson of the Bucyrus District Commercial Enforcement Unit of the Ohio State Highway Patrol was honored for his life-saving actions that saved the life of a driver involved in a crash. He was presented with a Certificate of Recognition at the Mansfield Post by Lt. Travis A. Hughes, Elyria Post Commander.
On July 17, 2014, MCEI Anderson was notified by a passing motorist who alerted him to a pick-up truck that had struck a house, just north of MCEI Anderson’s location. MCEI Anderson notified the Sandusky Dispatch Center and requested emergency response personnel. Upon his arrival, MCEI Anderson noticed a fire had started at the rear of the pick-up truck and retrieved his fire extinguisher. MCEI Anderson was able to contain the fire to the immediate area surrounding the vehicle, until additional emergency response personnel arrived on the scene.
It was later determined that the driver had suffered a stroke moments before the crash. It was also discovered that the pick-up truck was used to transport pest control products and was loaded at the time of the crash. The driver was transported to Elyria Memorial Hospital where he was later transferred to the Cleveland Metro Hospital for treatment. The courageous actions of MCEI Anderson prevented further injury and possible loss of life.
MCEI Anderson began his Patrol career in December 2011 as a motor vehicle inspector assigned to the former Massillon District Commercial Enforcement Unit. In 2013, he was promoted to a motor carrier enforcement inspector and transferred to his most recent assignment at the Bucyrus District Commercial Enforcement Unit.
