JEROMESVILLE — The postseason won’t tee off until next week, but the lessons learned at Thursday’s Ohio Cardinal Conference Tournament should serve Clear Fork well.

At least coach Ashley Twedt hopes so.

The Colts shot a 435 at Mohican Hills Golf Club to take third place in the five-team event. Lexington won with a 368, followed by Ashland (392). Madison (478) and Mansfield Senior (517) rounded out the field.

“We are used to playing on courses that are wide open,” Twedt said. “Mohican Hills is a little narrower. You really have to think your way around the course.

“With the sectional coming up, this was a good learning experience for us. “

Lexington’s Alex Sazdanoff claimed medalist honors with an 83, earning the OCC Player of the Year award. Teammate Abby Conover was second with an 88. Sazdanoff and Conover were joined on the OCC first team by Ashland’s Catharine Swan (91) and Tori Jones (95) and Madison’s Jenna Messner (97).

“Jenna is just a sophomore,” Madison coach Tim Dean said. “I was extremely pleased with the way all of the girls played. I couldn’t be more proud.”

Lexington’s Savannah Cinadr shot a 98, while teammate Sophie Plew carded a 99. They were joined on the OCC second team by Ashland’s Abby Merkel (99) and Mansfield Senior’s Morgan Adkins (101).

“This was the first time any of my girls had seen Mohican Hills,” Senior High coach Adam Galley said. “Still, our girls did a nice job. My No. 2 girl, Brittany Douville, shot the best round of her life.”

Tune-up: Lexington and Clear Fork will open Division II sectional play Tuesday at Valley View Golf Course in Galion.

Lady Lex will be among the favorites to advance to the district tournament. Twedt is hoping the Colts can get through as well.

“We have been fourth the last couple of years and the top three teams move on,” Twedt said. “There will be great competition (at the sectional). Lexington is playing great and Sandusky Perkins is very good. Hopefully we will be able to get over the hump.”

Madison and Mansfield will be at the Division I sectional at Sycamore Springs in Arlington on Oct. 1.

“The girls are looking forward to it,” Dean said. “No matter what happens, they always come off the course with a smile on ther faces. I like to see that.”
