The Mansfield Kiwanis Club is working to save lives today by supporting “Spare Change for Children.” Area residents can drop off “Spare Change for Children” in front of PurseSnickety Boutique by Barnes & Noble in Ontario. The event will be held today, July 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a special appearance by 2014 Miss Ontario Lauren Beard.

“A special committee within our club is active in the ELIMINATE project which is designed to raise funds to virtually eliminate MNT or Maternal Neonatal Tetanus,” said Kelby King. “It’s fascinating because $2 saves a human life because that’s what it costs for a vaccine. MNT is a debilitating disease that slowly kills a mom and her newborn–very sad but it’s easy to save lives.”

King said MNT is in the U.S., but more prevalent in foreign countries where there is a lack of healthcare. Kiwanis International joined forces with UNICEF in this project.

“I am passionate about it because I had a premature baby who struggled to survive. Although my daughter wasn’t subjected to MNT, it’s hard to imagine another mother watching her baby die,” said King.

Area residents are encourage to stop by the story from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.

“I chose PurseSnickety for the location because it’s a great location and Becky Sipe is wonderful to work with. Her boutique attracts women of all ages,” added King.
