Michael D. Benedum, 58, of Galion, died Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.

Michael was born in Ogden, UT on July 14, 1955, to the late Ralph Adrian and Cordella Belle (Christian) Benedum. He married Sharon K. Lemaster Hottell on June 6, 1998, and she survives him.

Michael was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Galion where he was the church custodian, a position to which he was very dedicated. He was an owner/operator over the road truck driver for many years. He had a passion for racing and working on older model cars. His motto was “If someone made it, I can take it apart and put it back together.”

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Brittany and Jeff VanDyne of Columbus,  stepchildren, Jodi and R.J. Picetti of Lewis Center, and Ryan Hottell and his fiancé  Martnee Black of Columbus. Michael leaves behind five grandchildren, Jocelyn and Gibson VanDyne, Claire  nd twins Lauren and Christopher Picetti. Michael is also survived by one brother and three sisters, Teresa and George Hayman of Columbus, Robert and Gail Benedum of Racine, Wisconsin, Cheryl Ables of Ashland, and Patty and Jim Frazee of Chauncey, and numerous nieces and nephews and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Caroline Pauley.

Friends may call on Monday July 7, 2014 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Galion. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church with Pastor Matthew Wheeler officiating.
