MANSFIELD – Alissa Brumbaugh, Miss Miami Valley and Mackenzie Bart, Miss Montgomery County captured the first round of preliminaries at the 2014 Miss Ohio Scholarship Program Thursday evening at the Renaissance Theatre.
Brumbaugh, of Louisville, Ohio was honored with the award Wednesday night for Lifestyle and Fitness preliminary honor and a $500 scholarship from Richland Bank. This phase of competition focuses on maintaining a healthful, positive lifestyle. A contestant’s drive, energy and charisma are factors in the judging of this category. The Lifestyle and Fitness competition represents 15 percent of a contestant’s score.
Bart, of Columbus, Ohio was honored with the award Thursday night for Talent competition and a $500 scholarship from Richland Bank. Miss Bart performed a ventriloquist vocal piece, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious,” from Mary Poppins. This phase of competition is based on a contestant’s preparation, performance skills and personality, as well as technical excellence. The Talent competition portion of the competition represents 35 percent of a contestant’s score.
The Miss Ohio Scholarship Program, Inc. helps provide personal and professional opportunities for Ohio women and promotes their voice in culture, politics and the community. The main focus of the program, scholarships, has helped a number of young women with college opportunities during its existence. This year, more than $40,000 in scholarships will be awarded to the 25 contestants competing this year at Miss Ohio.
The next Miss Ohio will be crowned Saturday night in Mansfield.
