William Dean “Bill” Love, age 84, of Shelby, died Sunday, June 15, 2014 at his home.

Bill was born December 31, 1929 in Shelby the son of the late Charles and Florence H. (Grimwood) Love. He graduated from Crestline High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Metz, France.

Bill had a lifelong love of trucking, beginning at age 14 when he helped his dad haul livestock for Bachrach Farms. With truck driving in his blood, he began his working career driving truck for Bucyrus Blades and later worked in their shipping department. He retired in 1997. Following his retirement, Bill worked for Ralph Phillips Farms.

Bill was a member of First Lutheran Church in Shelby, Buckeye Iron Will Club and was a major labor contributor to Sigfried Field in Shelby where he is recognized on a plaque for his efforts. He was a pyrotechnic assistant with his friend, John Hancock, for many years and loved fireworks- never missing a fireworks show anywhere in the area. Bill enjoyed the outdoors, especially gardening, caring for his lawn, hunting, and fishing- where he cherished several trips to Canada with friends. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and attending his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. This included being actively involved as Shelby Whippet Band Parents for 26 years with his wife, Tess.

Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, Esther M. “Tess” (Boreman) Love, whom he wed on May 15, 1954; their children: Debra Love of Shelby, Tammie J. (Richard C.) Love Brieck of Columbus, Douglas A. (Kimberly Allen) Love of Ashland, Toni (Shawn) Love Clark of Worthington; 7 grandchildren: Stephanie (John Thull) Amick, Sam (Kendall) Brieck, Peter Brieck, Noelle Brieck, Nathan Clark, Ruby Marie Clark, Wyatt Love; 2 great grandchildren: Olivia Amick and Steven Amick; Brother-in-law: Jim “Gint” Boreman; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; Special Army buddies: Dean (Jean) Brubaker and Claire Lausch. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three siblings: Richard “Dick” Love, Mary Louise Adkins, Robert “Bob” Love.

Friends and family are welcome on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Turner Funeral Home, 168 West Main Street, Shelby where funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11AM by Rev. Russ Yoak and Mrs. Gaye Shira. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Shelby with military honors conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
