Traffic on I-71 South at the 30 westbound exit was slowed on Friday afternoon when a semi-truck rolled over while coming off the exit ramp.

Assistant Chief John Fry from the Mifflin Township Fire Department said the fire department and EMS responded to a call that a semi had rolled over and there was a victim entrapped. He said the driver of the truck had extracted himself from the truck when units arrived at the scene and was walking around.

“He has refused all treatment, so we are signing him off,” said Fry.

Witness Amy Noel, a respiratory therapist from Shelby, was driving behind the semi truck when it rolled over. She stated she initially tried to extract the driver from the semi, but did not know how to get him out.

“I was the first one (on the scene) because I was right behind him and I saw him,” she said. “He was getting ready to get on I-71 South on the curve here and he had one of those big coils back behind there, and I think it shifted and it just flipped him over.”

An initial call at approximately 12:45 p.m. on Friday stated the semi-truck was blocking all three lanes of traffic on I-71 South. Traffic had been restored to one lane a short time later.

The State Highway Patrol and the Ohio Department of Transportation both responded to the scene of the accident. As of approximately 1 p.m. Friday afternoon investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the rollover.
