Shelby Floats and BBQ, LLC hosted a celebration of their second anniversary on Saturday. They invited businesses from around Richland County to set up shop in the adjacent parking lot and provided live music and hearty food. Jimi Vincent brought his acoustic guitar and serenaded the crowd while they meandered from vendor to vendor.
Two years ago a family decided to start a business in Shelby. They chose to serve the citizens of Shelby and the surrounding county with fresh ingredients and homemade platters at an affordable price. Thanks to family and community support, Shelby Floats and BBQ, LLC was born.
“We just want to create something different for Shelby. This is a little more family friendly because we don’t serve liquor,” said owner Dawn Kershner.
The small restaurant plays blues music, reminding customers that Kershner’s brother is musical artist Jimi Vincent. And all of the meat used in the sandwiches and platters are smoked in the back room.
“It’s definitely different in here [the restaurant] but we have fresh food,” added Kershner.
According to Kershner, she would like to turn the parking lot next to the restaurant into a patio so guests can eat outside during summer months. For now, however, she invites merchants from around Ohio and Richland County to come out for the day to create a family fun party.
Merchants included IT WORKS! from Delaware County. Along with various health and wellness products, Tiffany Drago, an independent distributor, advocated and sold the ultimate body wrap. Natasha Orstrander represented Pure Romance from Richland County. She was selling bath and beauty products.
“We eat here once a week, so we’re regulars,” said Orstrander of her family.
Another vendor came out for the celebration. Katie Wedwid of All About the Paw out of Ontario came out to get the word out that she offers dogs and cats a foster home. They rescue dogs and cats from Richland, Knox and Morrow counties and find foster homes for the animals. Currently they are holding eight dogs and one cat. For more information on how to be an animal’s foster parent, visit their website.
This celebration went until 7 p.m. on Saturday evening. For more information on Shelby Floats and BBQ, LLC, or for directions on how to get there to try one of their home-smoked rack of ribs, visit their Facebook page.
