MANSFIELD — Leadership Unlimited honored 31 leaders at the 2026 Alumni Dinner & Class Commencement on June 11 at Dan Lew Exchange, celebrating a year of collaboration, community engagement, and hands-on learning across Richland County.
The evening opened with remarks from Chris Dingess, incoming chair of the Mansfield-Richland Area Educational Foundation and LU Class of 2022 alumnus, who welcomed graduates, alumni, sponsors, and community partners.
Dingess highlighted the LU Advisory Board’s role in shaping curriculum, strengthening alumni connections, and supporting the program’s long-term impact.
Guests were inspired by keynote speaker Sam VanCura, LU Class of 1988, whose address, “From Learning to Leading: Your Role in Community Transformation,” emphasized the responsibility and opportunity leaders have to shape the future of their communities.
Program facilitator Angie Cirone, director of the Mansfield-Richland Area Educational Foundation, reflected on the class’s yearlong journey.
From the opening retreat at Mohican Lodge to immersive program days in economic development, education, public safety, housing, healthcare, and more, participants gained a deeper understanding of the systems, people, and partnerships that drive progress in Richland County.
The class also completed the Ohio Attorney General’s Charitable University training and attended local board or government meetings to strengthen their understanding of governance and civic responsibility.

Cirone shared, “It is such an honor to facilitate Leadership Unlimited, Richland County’s flagship community leadership program. This is my fourth class to facilitate, and the Class of 2026 made a remarkable impact.
“Their curiosity, collaboration, and commitment to serving our community were evident in every program day. They leave with stronger connections, a deeper understanding of local systems, and a clear sense of purpose as leaders.”
Cirone also highlighted the class’s capstone project, “A Westinghouse Party,” a community celebration developed in partnership with Richland County Commissioner Tony Vero and local organizations.
The class contributed to event planning, marketing, branding, and logistics, demonstrating collaboration, resilience, and meaningful community impact.

A major highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2026 Outstanding Alumnus Award. Mansfield Mayor Jodie Perry recognized Dan Varn, Executive Director of the United Way of Richland County, for his career excellence, civic leadership, and behind-the-scenes contributions that have strengthened families, organizations, and community partnerships across the region.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of plaques to the 31 graduates of the Leadership Unlimited Class of 2026, each recognized for their commitment to learning, growth, and service. Graduates represent a wide range of industries including public safety, education, healthcare, manufacturing, nonprofit leadership, and local government.
Leadership Unlimited extends sincere appreciation to the many LU alumni who attended the event to support the graduating class. Their presence reinforced the strength of the countywide alumni network and the ongoing commitment to mentorship, collaboration, and community impact.
Holly Christie, LU Class of 2020, introduced the incoming Leadership Unlimited Class of 2027, a cohort of 32 professionals representing diverse sectors and communities across Richland County.
Mary Frankenfield, LU Class of 2017, closed the evening with an update on alumni initiatives, including Lunch & Learn sessions, the annual Mayoral Vision event, and a recent visit to the Ohio Statehouse.
“Leadership Unlimited alumni continue to deepen their impact across Richland County,” Frankenfield shared. “We invite all graduates to stay connected and engaged in this growing network of leaders committed to collaboration and community progress.”
The evening concluded with class and alumni photos and a celebration of the program’s ongoing legacy.
