To help foster and reward a generation of students who excel academically and make healthy life choices, Mansfield Motor Group (MMG), in partnership with Richland Source, is offering a brand new car or $10,000 scholarship to a high school senior through the Mansfield Motor Group Student Citizen Program.

MMG President Dirk Schluter explained that the aim of the program is to motivate students to perform better academically in school. “Just as important, or possibly more importantly, it will encourage students to make the right choices in life and realize it’s not always just about grades but citizenship, as well,” he said.

Richland Source Publisher Jay Allred added, “Our role [at Richland Source] is to make high school seniors aware of the opportunity to win a new car and, more importantly, give them the information, tools, and motivation to make good life decisions during their senior year in high school.”

He added, “Richland Source is excited to be a part of this program. Texting and driving is a very real danger to all motorists. We applaud MMG for bringing awareness to the issue among high school students, and we are happy to help them promote this great contest. Far too often, the media spends time covering students who engage in destructive or damaging behavior. We forget about the 99 percent of students who are doing their best to become great citizens. This program spotlights those kids, which we are honored to do.”

Any student, currently enrolled in his or her senior year of high school, who attends a participating Richland County school and meets all of the criteria may be eligible to win. Applications can be attained from participating schools’ high school offices. The application must be submitted to the student’s office by the entry deadline of Friday, October 18.

Health Educator at the Mansfield/Ontario/Richland County Health Department, Reed Richmond, explained that the Richland County Safe Communities Coalition is partnering with MMG in this program. “One of our goals is promoting teen driving safety, since young people are the ones at highest risk for fatality, and we’re really concerned about seat belt use and distracted driving,” stated Richmond.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to be involved in this program. I think it’s a tremendous opportunity for high school seniors in this county to participate in this contest that rewards good citizenship and good driving,” he continued.

The grand prize winner will be determined at the mock crash event in April 2014 at the Richland County Fairgrounds.

At the mock crash, names of the finalists will be drawn out of a drum to determine the final drawing’s order. Based on the order that their names are drawn, the finalists will then draw keys of out a drum. The finalist with the key that unlocks the vehicle is the winner. The winner may choose either a brand new Nissan Versa Sedan with a value up to $12,780 or a $10,000 scholarship. If the student selects the vehicle, he or she may choose the Nissan Versa or another MMG vehicle.

A full description of the contest rules can be found below. The application and agreement must be obtained from the student’s high school and the documents must be completed and turned in to the school by Oct. 18.
