MANSFIELD — The Herlihy Funeral Home is a familiar name in Mansfield.

There’s a reason for that. The business, family owned and operated since 1925, is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

In 1925, Joseph Geiger purchased the family house of R.B. Maxwell and began Geiger Funeral Home. Paul J. Herlihy and his son Paul R. Herlihy continued with the family business as Geiger-Herlihy Funeral Home.

After Paul R. Herlihy passed away in 1999, his wife Sharon became the owner of the funeral home. Today, Paul and Sharon’s daughter, Terri Herlihy-Clark, is the funeral director and manager.

The foundation of the family business has encompassed four generations.

The Herlihy family has been active in the Mansfield community in different ways over the years, too.

Family members have been long-time volunteers with the Miss Ohio Scholarship Program, assisting with parades and festivals in the community.

In addition, the family has opened its home to the public for a Christmas Open House with over 30 decorated trees and holiday-themed items that fill the house. The Christmas House will be open to the public Dec. 11 to 14, 2025, too.

“Herlihy Funeral Home strives to meet the needs of the families it serves, to ensure families know their loved one is being respectfully and professionally cared for,” the family stated in a press release.

“Even though the Herlihy family are life-long members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, it is important to know that it offers services for families of ALL religious denominations as well as those who are not affiliated with a church or synagogue.”

The Herlihys said they want to thank all the families that have come to them for their services over the years.
